Definition

Over the last thirty years or so, scientific, technical and industrial Culture (Csti) has developed considerably in France. It is today to be found in numerous cultural areas, galleries, museums, centres of scientific, technical and industrial culture (CCSTI) as well as in university zones and is of particular interest to local authorities for their town and country planning projects and for bringing society closer to science and technological innovation.

It can also be found in events across the country, either European (e.g. The night of the researchers) national, relayed to the different regions (Science Festival, Science Exhibition) not forgetting regional events with a national impact, scientific cinema festival (Oullins, Paris), theatre and science (Saint-Etienne), or more local (e.g. « Common Knowledge » at Strasbourg).

The dynamism of scientific culture in France is therefore based on a mixture of situations, advertising, legal statutes, financing methods, cultural objectives and intervention methods. Local authorities, at every level, are by far the major contributors to the Csti’s public policies.
